Publication: The Wimmera Inland Freezing Works, financed by local graziers was formed in 1908. This publication describes the establishment, construction, machinery and operations until its demise in 1926. Publication: In Square Peg, its 1960, the author, a newly qualified teacher, was sent to Coromby School. Like many women teachers of the day, she married a local farmer. She battled the challenges of farming life for ten hard years before the family decided to hoist their house onto a truck and relocate to Murtoa.

Fitting into Place picks up where Square Peg left off. It’s now 1972, and the family revels in the comforts of town life. Her experiences as mother and teacher stimulate a deeper interest in early childhood development, and when the youngest child turns three, Sylvia returns to teaching and further study.

Anecdotes about the fascinating people and colourful locals she encounters are woven throughout both memoirs.

James Hill – His Life and Amazing Taxidermy Collection (soft cover)

Publication: James Hill was a farmer in the Kewell district and began his taxidermy hobby in 1875 until he died in 1932. The collection is reputed to be one of the best in Australia, outside of the Victoria Museum. Over 600 birds, reptiles and bird eggs are on display in the Old Water Tower building of Murtoa Museum. This publication explores the many interests and talents of James Hill, a full and fascinating life. A comprehensive list of birds in the collection is included.
